RULES AND REGULATIONS

COMPLETION DATES: Films must have completed production and filmming in 2007 or 2008.

SUBMISSION DEADLINES & ENTRY FEES: All films in competition must pay the entry fee, must be submitted online by their respective deadline and POSTMARKED within one week of their respective deadline.

Feature filmmakers should view the special categories with a slightly different fee schedule before submitting, these festival categories can be viewed online at www.withoutabox.com, and include special incentives for:
Features made on 35mm,
Features with Senior Citizens in lead roles, and
US or World Premieres.

FEATURE COMPETITION - 35mm Incentive
Feature Competition with special incentive for films produced on 35mm MOTION PICTURE FILM ONLY. Films can be dramatic narratives, documentary, experimental or animation, and will be entered into the Feature Competition category.
If at least 75% of your film was not shot on 35mm filmstock, STOP and find the appropriate category.

FEATURE COMPETITION - Senior Lead Incentive
Feature Competition with special incentive ONLY for films that feature SENIOR CITIZENS IN LEAD ROLES. If not, STOP and find the appropriate category.
Films can be dramatic narratives, experimental or animation, and will be entered into the Feature Competition category.
Films must have at least ONE LEAD ACTOR that is at least 65 years of age or older, and is portrayed in a positive light. A "lead actor" is defined as a human actor that has a total onscreen time of at least 15 minutes or longer, and is not a supporting character, bit player, or extra.

US and WORLD PREMIERES
US and World Premiere feature films for the Red Rock Film Festival. Films may be narratives (dramatic,) documentaries, animation or experimental.
Films MUST GUARANTEE either a US or WORLD PREMIERE at the Red Rock Film Festival. If not, please Stop and enter the appropriate category.

BUTCH CASSIDY INCENTIVE
A special category for filmmakers attending the Sundance Film Festival. This category is for the Feature Competition and the Shorts Competition of narrative (dramatic,) documentary, animated and experimental films. It is an incentive program to submit your film during the Sundance Film Festival to one of the Red Rock Film Festival reprentatives. This may require you to call and set up an appointment to meet in Park City, Utah.
Filmmakers should also be on the look out for Red Rock Film Festival representatives during the Sundance Film Festival for the special "Butch Cassidy Incentive" submission category.

ADDITIONAL RULES FOR YOUNG FILMMAKERS: Young Filmmakers Shorts must have been written, created and directed with all major crew members enrolled in high school, middle school or an equivalent home taught program during the production of the film. The directors and filmmakers must also be 18 years of age or younger during the production of the film. Cast members may be any age and do not need to be in school.

CHECKS / MONEY ORDERS: Make checks or US money orders payable in U.S. dollars to "Ophilia Events."

PRIOR SCREENINGS: Entries in Competition may not have opened theatrically nor nationally broadcast in any format anywhere in the U.S. before November 1st, 2008. Entries may not have been previously submitted into the Red Rock Film Festival.

FINANCING: Entries in Competition may not have been produced, financed or initiated by a MAJOR motion picture studio distribution company.

LANGUAGE: Festival is open to foreign and world cinema. Dialogues that are not in English must be subtitled in English.

RUNNING TIME: Features must be 60 - 150 minutes in length. Shorts must be 2 - 59 minutes in length. Young Filmmaker Shorts must be 2 - 25 minutes in length. Running time is calculated from the head frame to the last frame of the end credits.

CONTENT: The festival encourages films that portray the human race in a positive light, and will take films of all sorts into consideration. Please be advised that films with gratuitous or excessive violence or sexual content will not be accepted at the programmer's discretion.

SUBMISSION FORMAT: Submission copies for features may be on VHS (NTSC) or DVD (PAL or NTSC.) Shorts may be submitted on DVD (PAL or NTSC.) If the entry is selected into the final festival, it is recommended that entries produced on film should be made available in a 35mm composite print with the soundtrack and titles included.
